On June 12, 2025, I received an email asking if I could help awild grizzly bear who swam to Texada island on the coast of British Columbia, Canada. She said island residents didn’t want to coexist and wanted the bear killed, including the government. She wanted the bear to understand that humans were out to kill him. She wanted him to move on to the mainland and out of sight.
A summary of what the news media reported:
The four-year-old grizzly had several relocations on his record and a history of breaking into fishing boats and following hikers in British Columbia, when he swam to bear-free Texada Island. Now, locals, provincial officials, and First Nations leaders are divided over what to do. The Mamalilikulla First Nation wants to move the bear 100 miles north of Texada, but is unable to do so without the permission of the B.C. Conservation Officer Service. The conservation office held that the bear’s history precluded him from being a relocation candidate. There was no order to kill the bear but concern that he would threaten human safety. When I got in touch with the grizzly bear, I experienced him as an amazing being with a big aura and great benevolence toward the people of Texada Island. He knew what he was doing and had plans to return to a safer area after his mission was done. His mission was to help stabilize or balance the land and water energy in the area. He was aware of human intentions and fears, and he had his work to do, which was more important to him than protecting his body at that time. Many beings were working with him. I felt great protection for him.
I told the person who enquired that I’d keep in touch with the bear. I recommended that she stay in a good space in herself without fear, but echoing the bear’s benevolence and majesty to add to the energy that was supporting him.
13June25 The Texada grizzly and I had another good communication. I and nature spirits assisted with his energy balancing mission.
17June25 My grizzly friend came into my awareness. He was moving around, exploring and doing his work, and slowly heading toward a safer area.
3July25 Any new word on Tex the grizzly bear? It seems from the news that there are no new sightings. That is a good thing, as communication looks to be working. Public pressure has made the government back off without doing anything. A lot of people want him moved out of his home range, but that does not solve the problem and will create a vacuum for another bear to take his place. My view is that the people should learn to coexist, and the bear will move off when he’s ready.
I answered: We’ve been keeping in touch. His energetic space has magnified and calmed since he settled on the island, and he decided not to move on. He completed his task of harmonizing the land and water energies and now holds that harmony in his being. He felt that people were friendly, and he didn’t have to struggle so much to live as he did before being around other bears and more hostile people. For now, the island is his territory. Many people feel his harmony and want to coexist peaceably. Let it be so.
I told the person I would keep in touch with the bear as he wished. I felt him at peace and the creator of his adventure. This saga may have more chapters, but my part for now is complete.
———— 14July25 Our grizzly bear friend was shot by an island resident and later found dead. 15July25 Tla’amin Nation held a ceremony in his honor after taking custody of his remains. He has completed his mission on Earth, and I feel him at peace and shining his light over the land that he loved.
